What We Do

Programs & Services

The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley focuses on promoting and enhancing the development of our youth by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, influence, and belonging through the following programs:

Fillmore Club Programs:

  • Art Classes – Art classes, taught by a professional art teacher, teach club members about a variety of art mediums ranging from pastel to watercolors.
  • Cooking Class – Club members meet every Friday to learn how to cook healthy and tasty foods.  Classes are taught by program staff members.
  • Mentor Program – The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley, in collaboration with the Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Ventura County, offers a Mentor Program in which elementary aged children are partnered with a high school aged mentor.
  • Reading Club – Club members walk to the Fillmore Library and participate in the special programs they offer, and children check out a reading book for one week.
  • Robotics – A special program, utilizing computers and Lego’s, Robotics teaches children to build robots whose movements are controlled by computer thus enhancing the youth’s knowledge of science and technology.
  • STEM Programs – A variety of weekly Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics activities comprise our STEM programs.
  • Torch Club – The Torch Club is a charter small-group leadership and service club for boys and girls ages 11-13.  Members learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness and social recreation.
  • Triple Play – A comprehensive health and wellness program which strives to improve the overall health of Club members ages 6-18 by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.

 

Piru Club Programs:

Art Classes – Art classes, taught by a professional art teacher, teach club members about a variety of art mediums ranging from pastel to watercolors.

Santa Paula Club Programs:

Garden Club – Twice a week club members meet and learn how to plant flowers and tend to our garden.

Mentor Program– The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley offers a peer mentoring program in which younger club members are mentored by teen club members who have been thoroughly trained on how to be a positive role model. Matches meet once a week and enjoy activities that include homework help, sports activities and arts & crafts.

Smart Moves – Smart Moves is a prevention/education program that addresses issues such as drugs, alcohol use & premature sexual activity. The program teaches young people ages 6-18 how to say no to negative influences by involving them in discussions, role playing, practicing resistance and refusal skills and strengthening decision making skills.  Topics differ among the different age groups to ensure content remains age appropriate.  Parental consent is required to participate.
